The Villain tackles the duality of an actor’s onscreen and offscreen personas.

The film is a fascinating portrait of Anita Rosales, an elderly actress confronted with isolation and loneliness. Anita plays an actress from the heydays of cinema, so her character dresses up for the part and maintains that look. Eventually, Anita’s onscreen persona merges with her real one.

For the first time in her long career, the Grand Dame of Philippine cinema Nora Anour plays the role of a villain. Her superb acting and experience help her make the audience empathise with her.
